About Me

I am an artist working in oil paint and ceramics now based in Santa Cruz, CA. I recently graduated from Swarthmore College with a B.A. in Art and Classical Studies. While in undergrad I also studied at the Mount Gretna School of Art in Mount Gretna, PA, the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome, and the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ballycastle, Ireland. The culmination of my studies at Swarthmore was the creation and display of large body of work, primarily painting as well as some ceramic sculpture. Many of these pieces were derived from imagery in my dreams. Formally, they focused heavily on the creation of light and space when not grounded in the translation of observed spaces, as well as the tension between abstraction and representation. In both oil painting and ceramics I also find an interest in the tension between control and chance when handling the material and this tension is a primary focus of my current painting work.
